If you have received a letter or a call from the police, this usually concerns a case of parking on private property for which you were not authorized.
This article explains to you why you received a fine and how you can proceed.
⚠️ Reasons for receiving a fine
There are two main reasons why we have to file a fine through the police:
🔒 1. Blocked vehicle owner data
You have registered a data disclosure block for your vehicle owner data at the road traffic office.
In some cantons (e.g., Vaud), these data may not be passed on to third parties for data protection reasons.
➡️ This means:
We cannot send you an invoice or reminder directly.
After the payment deadline expires (e.g., after a payment request on the vehicle), we have only the option of filing a fine with the police.
The police will be contacted in such cases to determine the driver or owner data as part of the procedure.
💡 Note:
If you have a data disclosure block, please regularly check your vehicle for possible payment requests – these already count as the first invoice.
💰 2. Non-payment of invoice or reminder
If you have not paid an invoice or reminder for illegal parking within the deadline, we will file a fine through the police after the deadlines have expired.
➡️ This means:
The fine will be filed in the name of the parking lot owner (client).
The police will then investigate the responsible person or driver.
You will then be contacted in writing or by phone to comment on the matter.
💡 Important:
Such a process does not represent an automatic criminal procedure, but initially serves for clarification and official delivery.
🕊️ Is it possible to withdraw the fine?
In certain cases, a withdrawal of the fine is possible – but only as long as the deadline at the police or public prosecutor's office has not yet expired.
📋 Please note the following:
A withdrawal is only possible before the issuance of the penal order.
Once you have received a penal order, a withdrawal is no longer possible.
Depending on the stage of the procedure, additional costs may be incurred upon withdrawal (e.g., administrative or processing fees).
➡️ Procedure:
Contact us immediately as soon as you receive the police letter.
Provide us with your license plate number so that we can review your case.
We will clarify whether a withdrawal is still possible and sensible and inform you about the further procedure.
💡 Recommendation:
The sooner you get in touch, the higher the chance that the procedure can be settled out of court.
🚫 If you have already received a penal order
Once you have received a penal order from the court or the public prosecutor's office,
a withdrawal of the fine is no longer possible – the procedure is then no longer within our area of responsibility.
In this case, you can only contact the responsible authority directly to decide on possible legal remedies (e.g., objection).
🧭 Overview of possible steps
| Situation | Measure | Recommended action |
|---|---|---|
| 🔒 Owner data blocked | Fine through the police required | Check vehicle mail and contact immediately if contacted |
| 💰 Invoice/reminder unpaid | Fine after deadline expires | Make contact, clarify or offer payment |
| 🕊️ Before issuance of penal order | Withdrawal of fine possible | Contact Beppo immediately |
| ⚖️ Penal order already received | No withdrawal possible | Check legal remedies according to instructions |
💡 How to avoid future fines
Observe the signage on private parking lots – even if they appear empty.
Pay invoices or reminders on time to avoid a procedure.
Keep your address up to date with the road traffic office so that you reliably receive mail.
If you have a data disclosure block, regularly check your vehicle for any payment requests.
📝 Summary:
If you have been contacted by the police, this usually means that you have parked on private property without authorization.
Depending on the situation – blocked owner data or unpaid invoice – a fine through the police was necessary.
A withdrawal may be possible under certain circumstances, as long as no penal order has been issued.
